The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Is Here, Unveiling Fresh Faces Rosalina & Bowser Jr. Voices
Nintendo alongside Illumination released the initial complete preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie this Wednesday. This occurred during a special Nintendo Direct that centered on the upcoming animated film.
The sequel to the successful 2023 release The Super Mario Bros. Movie, this fresh entry will transport Mario to the far corners of the universe. There, he will encounter a new princess and a powerful new opponent in Bowser Jr., the son of the King of the Koopas.
A Space-Faring Quest Based on Iconic Releases
In the vein of the Wii-era games that act as its source material, Mario will leave behind the well-known surroundings of the Mushroom Kingdom to travel across the galaxy. Throughout his extensive trek, he will meet again some recognizable characters, for instance the Luma, a fan favorite from the original cinematic release.
But it appears Mario and his sibling Luigi will face a fresh enemy in the form of Bowser's furious offspring, who apparently wields metal-based powers. Interestingly, the preview for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is not exclusively centered on visuals from the Galaxy games; it also contains hints to other beloved games like Super Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury.
Star-Studded Voice Cast Returns and Expands
The film will welcome back of the original voice cast, including Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Joining the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie are Brie Larson, who will portray Rosalina, and Benny Safdie, set to embody Bowser Jr. This was confirmed by Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri.
A Significant Period for Mario
The new Mario movie is planned to debut near the 40-year celebration of the original Super Mario Bros. game. Beyond the film, 2026 promises to be a important time for Mario and his friends.
Nintendo has a set of three fresh titles already confirmed for 2026, including Mario Tennis Fever, a release on Switch 2 of Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and a latest Yoshi adventure game titled Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
Premiere Date Announced
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is planned for launch on April 3, 2026.
